New Delhi: No decision was taken on the post of Prime Minister in the meeting of the opposition camp in Patna. Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar said this on Monday. Last week, at the initiative of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna, the opposition held a meeting to discuss the process of forming a united anti-BJP alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Apart from Nitish Kumar, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former President Rahul Gandhi, CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI General Secretary D Raja, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray were present. The next meeting of the opposition will be held in Shimla. There is curiosity in all quarters whether there was any discussion about the 'face' of the Prime Minister of the opposition camp in the Patna meeting. However, the veteran Maratha leader made it clear that no decision was taken in the meeting.
Speaking to reporters in Maharashtra's Baramati city today, Pawar said opposition leaders participating in the meeting discussed issues like inflation, unemployment. Pawar attacked the BJP for criticizing the opposition meeting and asked, why is the BJP worried about this meeting? Besides, he said, the party "lacks a mature political attitude". The BJP mocked that '19 prime ministerial aspirants' had gathered at the Patna meeting. In this context, Pawar said that this is a childish statement.
The Patna meeting is seen as the first step of the opposition alliance. The opposition leader has already said who will be the 'face' of the alliance, it will be decided before the polls rather than after - the time for discussion has not yet come. But, in the joint press conference after the meeting, Nitish Kumar, who organized the meeting, first requested Rahul Gandhi to give a speech. A section of the political circle has considered the matter to be significant. But in that perspective, Pawar's comment is also seen as a message.
Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena (UBT) compared the opposition alliance and the Modi government with Russia's Wagner group and the Putin government. An editorial in Monday's edition of the party's mouthpiece Samna read, "The anti-BJP grand alliance is India's Wagner Group." They are the ones who will oust the Modi government. Be it Putin or Modi, they have to face the revolt. But this Wagner group is non-violent. Modi will be removed from power in a democratic manner. This Wagner Group of Patna is the defender of democracy.
