Earlier in the day, Suvendu Adhikari welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kolkata airport. The two leaders later travelled together by helicopter to the Racecourse before heading to Brigade Parade Ground by road. Adhikari, accompanied by Prime Minister Modi and West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, greeted supporters from an open-top vehicle before reaching the main stage.
In the recently concluded Assembly elections, Suvendu Adhikari emerged victorious from both Nandigram and Bhabanipur constituencies. On Friday, he was elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party during a meeting of party MLAs. Union Home Minister Amit Shah later formally announced Adhikari’s name as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Political observers believe the swearing-in of the BJP-led government marks the beginning of a new chapter in West Bengal politics, as the party assumes power in the state for the first time.
