BPCL Intensifies Fuel Supply Operations Across Smaller Towns Amid Rising Demand

Kolkata : Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Fortune Global 500 company and Maharatna PSU, has stepped up fuel supply and distribution operations across India’s smaller towns, semi-urban centres and regional markets to ensure uninterrupted availability of petrol and diesel amid a recent surge in demand across several parts of the country.

The company said that while metropolitan cities continue to remain adequately supplied, special operational focus has now been directed towards Tier-2, Tier-3 and remote regions where localised demand spikes and precautionary buying patterns have been noticed over the past few days.

According to BPCL, the rise in fuel demand has been driven by multiple market factors, including higher diesel consumption during the ongoing harvesting season, increasing consumer preference for PSU retail outlets in certain regions, and shifting purchasing trends among customer segments amid prevailing market conditions.

The company’s integrated supply chain network, comprising refineries, terminals, depots, transport logistics and retail outlets, continues to function efficiently with round-the-clock monitoring and close coordination between regional and field-level operational teams.

BPCL’s latest sales figures highlighted the sharp increase in fuel consumption as well as the company’s ability to maintain supply continuity during the period. Between May 1 and May 20, 2026, petrol sales volumes stood at 1005 TKL compared to 864 TKL during the corresponding period last year, registering a growth of 16.38%. Diesel sales during the same period reached 1677 TKL against 1437 TKL a year ago, reflecting a growth of 16.69%.

The PSU also maintained strong operational momentum over the last two days. On May 19, BPCL recorded primary petrol sales of 52.2 TKL and diesel sales of 93.5 TKL. On May 20, petrol sales stood at 51.2 TKL while diesel sales touched 92.1 TKL, indicating sustained replenishment and uninterrupted supply movement across its nationwide network.

To address higher demand in certain markets, BPCL said it has initiated several additional measures, including enhanced tanker movement planning, depot-level inventory optimisation and continuous monitoring of retail outlet replenishment cycles. Regional control rooms and operational teams are also working closely with dealers and distributors to ensure timely deliveries, especially in smaller towns and interior regions.

The company reiterated that India remains surplus in refining capacity and fuel availability across the country continues to remain stable. BPCL urged consumers not to indulge in panic buying or rely on rumours and unverified information circulating on social media and television platforms.

The PSU further stated that India’s fuel supply ecosystem remains resilient and fully capable of meeting both current and emerging demand patterns. BPCL said it remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability, operational responsiveness and seamless service delivery across urban, semi-urban and rural India through one of the country’s largest fuel distribution networks.
