TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee targets BJP at a rally in Bishnupur, criticizes Amit Shah, and asserts Trinamool Congress’s inevitable victory in West Bengal elections.
Kolkata : At a high-voltage election rally in Bishnupur’s Pailan area in South 24 Parganas, Abhishek Banerjee launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, asserting that the Trinamool Congress’s victory in West Bengal is inevitable. Addressing the gathering in support of TMC candidate Dilip Mondal, Banerjee accused the BJP of hypocrisy and warned that those who once spoke about banning fish in Bengal would be made to catch fish and sell fish and meat after the elections.
Taking a direct swipe at the BJP’s leadership, Banerjee said that no force could stop the Trinamool Congress from returning to power. He mocked BJP leaders, claiming that while they had earlier spoken about changing Bengal, it is they who have changed under the state’s influence. Referring to their campaign tactics, he remarked that leaders who once talked about restricting Bengali food habits are now seen carrying popular fish varieties like rohu, katla, and hilsa during election campaign. He also recalled the 2019 incident involving the vandalism of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar’s statue, using it to question the BJP’s respect for Bengal’s cultural icons.
Banerjee also took on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of issuing threats and attempting to intimidate the people of Bengal. Responding to Shah’s recent remarks, Banerjee challenged him to remain in the state on the day of the election results, saying he would meet him face-to-face. He alleged that outsiders were trying to influence and frighten Bengali voters, but insisted that the people of the state would respond decisively.
Emphasizing Trinamool’s political ideology, Banerjee stated that his party does not engage in politics based on religion but rather focuses on work and humanity. He accused the BJP of trying to dictate people’s choices, including food and clothing, and of attempting to capture Bengal through force. He further criticized what he described as “migratory leaders” who appear only during elections and disappear during times of crisis, asserting that voters would deliver a fitting response.
Addressing concerns over voter list exclusions, Banerjee reassured those whose names had been removed, urging them not to panic. He promised that once Mamata Banerjee returns to power for a fourth term, all such names would be reinstated within a month.
