Abhishek Banerjee to embark on Bengal yatra, hold vote to select party’s panchayat candidates

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress, the ruling party of Bengal, has come down to the streets in an effort to do public relations in villages before upcoming panchayet election. TMC all India general secretary Abhishek Banerjee made that message clear in a press conference recently. TMC will start public relations program from 25 April. This campaign of TMC is called ‘Trinamuler Naba Jawar’ (New Tide of Trinamool). Abhishek said, “Fair and free elections will be held and we will take a step forward and decide who will be the candidate in the 60,000 rural booths from the opinion of the public. This program is aimed at building people's panchayats.”

Conventionally, the candidate is decided in a closed-door meeting of the organization's top leadership. Mamata Banerjee's party is going to break that trend. Such is the message of Abhishek. He said, “I am going to build a people's panchayat with people’s opinion. Who can be found in need, he will be the party's panchayat candidate. Panchayat system in spinal cord of administration. So people should decide who will be the candidate there. The aim is not to favor nepotism, but to raise representatives who will dedicate themselves to the interests of the people. So there will be two programs - 1. Public relations journey, 2. The opinion of Gram Bengal.”

Speaking in detail about the program before the panchayat elections, Abhishek said, “I will be on the streets for two months. I will go to Bagdogra on 24th afternoon. From there I will worship at Madan Mohan temple. Then I will start the public relations from Dinhata and finish the tour at Sagar or Kakdwip in two months. I will hold 4-5 public meetings every day. I will return to the camp at 6 o'clock evening and talk to the representatives of the district. Each booth president will also be invited to the camp. There will be 3 to 4 thousand people. Then a secret ballot will be cast. That process is called Gram Bangla Opinion.”

His message, rise up in the interests of politics and find a representative who will work for you for the next 5 years. Whenever panchayat polls happen, we are ready. In order to clean up the panchayat, we will nominate the candidate for the panchayat election on people choice.
