Mamata, Nitish Kumar meet; say opposition parties must come together

Kolkata : On Monday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata to try to form a coalition of opposition parties. The two regional satraps stressed the importance of ‘preparing together’ for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The ‘positive’ meeting between the two leaders was also attended by Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar.

“It was a very positive discussion... Opposition parties need to sit together and strategies,” Kumar said after the meeting in the state secretariat Nabanna. He said, “it was a very positive discussion... Opposition parties need to sit together and strategise.” Mamata Banerjee said, “We need to give the message that we are together.”

Bengal chief minister and TMC supremo said in a press conference, “I have made just one request to Nitish Kumar. Jayaprakash (Narayan) ji's movement started from Bihar. If we have an all-party meeting in Bihar, we can then decide where we have to go next. But first, we have to give a message that we are united. I have said earlier, too, that I have no objections. I have always reiterated that BJP should be brought to zero. They have become huge heroes with the help of media, and the fake narratives that they push day-in, day out. All they indulge is in jumlas and goondaism.”

Sources said the two sides used the meeting to figure out how they would proceed in putting together a coalition that would be able to work before the elections, despite the fact that the leaders preferred to speak about the broader consensus.

“Nothing is being finished for India's turn of events, those administering are just inspired by their own commercial,” guaranteed Kumar.
