Amit Shah Unveils BJP Manifesto for Bengal Polls, Pushes for Uniform Civil Code and Welfare Measures

Kolkata : Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah, while unveiling his party’s manifesto for the Bengal Assembly elections scheduled on April 23 and 29, raised a pointed question on the issue of uniform civil laws, asking whether implementing the same laws for every citizen could be termed as appeasement.

Addressing the gathering on Friday, Shah asserted that people of all religions are equal citizens of India and questioned if allowing different personal laws—such as permitting one individual to marry multiple times while restricting another—constitutes fairness. He reiterated that wherever the BJP comes to power, the Uniform Civil Code would certainly be implemented.

Shah also launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress, alleging that the party had secured its second term in 2016 on false promises and returned to power again in 2021 through corruption. He further accused the ruling party of maintaining links with infiltrators. Describing the manifesto as a roadmap for building a “Sonar Bangla,” Shah highlighted several key promises made by the BJP.

The manifesto outlines a strict stance against infiltration and proposes financial assistance of Rs 3,000 per month for every woman and unemployed youth. It also promises the establishment of the Seventh Pay Commission for state government employees within 45 days of assuming power. Additionally, youths preparing for competitive examinations would receive Rs 15,000, along with a five-year age relaxation for candidates who, according to Shah, were deprived of job opportunities due to corruption.

The BJP also pledged to implement major central government schemes such as PM Vishwakarma Yojana, PM KUSUM Yojana, PM Ujjwala Yojana, and Khelo India, focusing on welfare, skill development, clean energy, and the promotion of sports if the party forms the government in West Bengal.
