Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kolkata on August 22 to inaugurate three metro routes: Sealdah–Esplanade, Beleghata–Ruby, and Noapara–Airport, calling it a 'historic gift' for Bengal ahead of Durga Puja.
Kolkata : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Kolkata later this month to inaugurate three new metro routes, a move the BJP has described as a 'historic gift' for Bengal ahead of Durga Puja. According to official sources, Modi will attend an administrative program in Dum Dum on August 22, from where he will formally launch the new metro services.
The routes that will be opened for public use include Sealdah–Esplanade, Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby), and Noapara–Jai Hind (Airport) corridors. The announcement has already been shared on social media by Union Minister and BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar, who revealed that formal invitations from the Ministry of Railways have been sent out. He hailed the inauguration as a milestone for the state, especially timed ahead of the festive season.
The Kolkata program comes at a time when the BJP is steadily stepping up its political activities in Bengal in the run-up to the assembly elections. Alongside inaugurating infrastructure projects, Modi is also scheduled to address a public rally in Dum Dum.
This will be the Prime Minister’s third trip to Bengal in recent months, following his visit to Alipurduar on May 29 and to Durgapur on July 18. BJP insiders suggest that Modi is expected to attend at least 10 administrative and political programs across West Bengal by December, underscoring the party’s growing focus on the state.
