Indian Railways announces a festive season special—passengers booking round-trip tickets between Dussehra and Chhath Puja will get 20% off on return fares, subject to conditions.
New Delhi : In a bid to boost bookings ahead of the upcoming festive season, Indian Railways has announced a special offer aimed at attracting passengers from air and road travel to the rail network. Under the initiative, passengers purchasing a round-trip ticket will receive a 20% discount on the return fare.
The offer will be rolled out in two phases. The first phase covers the festive period from Vijaya Dashami (Dussehra) to Diwali, specifically from October 13 to October 26, with bookings opening on August 14. The second phase will cover return travel during Diwali and Chhath Puja, from November 17 to December 1, with booking dates to be announced later.
To avail the discount, passengers must meet certain conditions. The onward and return tickets must be for the same train and travel class, and both tickets must be booked through the same channel—either online or offline. Additionally, tickets purchased using any other offers, discounts, or vouchers will not be eligible for the concession.
According to railway officials, the move is part of a broader strategy to encourage advance bookings during high-demand travel periods, while also positioning train travel as a more cost-effective alternative to flights and road transport during peak festive rush.
