New Delhi: The common man, who is suffering from the trap of price hike, has another 'bad day'. Cooking gas has become more expensive. On Monday, the Modi government at the Center increased the price of cooking gas by Rs 50 per cylinder. This price will be applicable in all cases including Ujjwala Yojana from Monday midnight. The new price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Kolkata will be Rs 879. Naturally, the increase in the price of cooking gas has further increased the cost of running a middle-class household. On the other hand, oil prices are gradually falling in the global market. In that atmosphere, the central government announced an additional excise duty of two rupees on petrol and diesel on Monday. It was said in a statement on Monday that from now on, the excise duty on petrol has been increased to Rs 13. In the case of diesel, the duty has been increased to Rs 10. However, this will not have any impact on the retail price. Retail buyers will not get the opportunity to reduce the price that they would have received if the oil price was reduced in the international market. The central coffers will be filled with additional duty.
The Trinamool Congress and other opposition parties have strongly protested against the sudden increase in the prices of LPG and petrol-diesel. Today, in Kolkata, the state general secretary of the Trinamool attacked the central government and the ruling party BJP, saying, "This is a gift to the people on Ram Navami! The previous day, they celebrated Ram Navami with a lot of fuss, and today they increased the price of cooking gas. The pressure will increase on all Hindu and Muslim families. This Modi government is anti-people. Starting from medicines to cooking gas, the prices of everything are increasing, the misery of the common people is increasing."
On this day, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “The price of a cylinder has increased from Rs 500 to Rs 550 for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries. For other consumers, the price of a cylinder of cooking gas has been increased from Rs 803 to Rs 853.” He added that this increase is usually subject to periodic review every 2-3 weeks. Till today, the price of a regular cylinder in Kolkata was Rs 829. It will be increased by Rs 50 to Rs 879. Incidentally, a few days ago, oil marketing companies had reduced the price of 19 kg commercial cooking gas by Rs 41 per cylinder. However, this time the announcement of this increase in the price of subsidized and Ujjwala Yojana cooking gas has raised concerns on the forehead of the common man.
On Monday, the Centre also increased the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per liter. Puri said that the recent increase in excise duty on petrol and diesel is not to burden the countrymen. This move is to help oil marketing companies offset losses of Rs 43,000 crore due to non-subsidized gas prices.
