Under the revised fare system, the minimum fare for these last metro services will increase by ₹10.
Kolkata: Commuters of Kolkata Metro are set to face a fare hike from December 10, particularly for the last two trains of the night, departing at 10:40 PM on the Blue Line. The Metro authorities announced on Monday that passengers boarding these late-night services would now have to pay an additional ₹10, regardless of the travel distance.
This decision follows concerns over significant financial losses incurred by running these trains, with passenger numbers remaining negligible. A statement from the Metro Authority revealed that while the cost of operating the two special services totals approximately ₹3.20 lakh per night, the revenue generated is a mere ₹6,000.
The late-night trains, introduced for the convenience of passengers traveling after 10:30 PM, connect Kabi Subhash (New Garia) and Dum Dum. However, the response from commuters has been underwhelming.
New Fare Structure
Under the revised fare system, the minimum fare for these last metro services will increase by ₹10, affecting fares across all station distances. The fares for ₹15, ₹20, and ₹25 categories will also rise accordingly during these special services.
Previously, the fares for these late-night metros were the same as daytime services. The Metro Authority explained that the surcharge aims to bridge the financial gap while maintaining the operational viability of these services.
In its announcement, the Metro Authority stated, two special last metro trains are being run from Kabi Subhash to Dum Dum and vice versa at 10:40 PM. However, very few passengers use this service. To compensate for the incurred losses, an
