JDU and TDP Differ on the Post of Speaker

New Delhi: The opposition 'INDIA' alliance has started preparing its strategy for the election of the new Lok Sabha Speaker. The opposition camp is unwilling to hand over the post of Speaker to the BJP without a fight. According to sources, the INDIA alliance may support a candidate for the Speaker of the Lok Sabha if they come from the NDA coalition partner TDP or JDU. However, JDU and TDP are not in agreement on this matter.

On the one hand, the JDU has stated that it will support the BJP's nominee, while the TDP has suggested that the NDA alliance should sit together and nominate a consensus candidate for the post of Speaker, whom TDP will then support. This issue was discussed at the home of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday, focusing on the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Present at the meeting were BJP All India President JP Nadda, Kiren Rijiju, JDU leader Lalan Singh, and LJP (RV) Chirag Paswan.

On this day, JDU leader KC Tyagi said, “JDU and TDP are partners of the NDA alliance. We will support the BJP nominee." Tyagi's comments indicate that the JDU will fully support the BJP's decision. On the other hand, TDP spokesperson Pattavi Ram Kommareddy stated that the NDA partners will come together, discuss, and decide on the Speaker candidate based on consensus. He further said, "NDA members will sit together and decide, and if all agree, then I will support that candidate." Kommareddy's statement suggests that the TDP wants all stakeholders to be consulted on the candidate nomination.

In the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 240 seats, 32 short of a majority. As a result, the roles of N Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar in NDA decision-making have become important. They are playing a key role in forming the third BJP government. Despite this, the BJP has retained key ministries in Modi's new government. TDP is a major contender for the post of Speaker of the Lok Sabha, which is significant in the parliamentary structure. However, the BJP has not yet made any public comment on the matter.

Incidentally, INDIA Bloc partner Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded that the post of Speaker be given to JDU or TDP. Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot said, "If the BJP gets the Speaker's post, JDU and TDP should be ready for horse-trading with their MPs." He further stated, “The whole country is looking towards the election of the Lok Sabha Speaker. If the BJP has no undemocratic intentions, then the post of Speaker should be given to its partners.” The Lok Sabha Speaker election will be held on June 26. Everyone's attention is now focused on this election.
