New Delhi: On June 25, 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a nationwide emergency. Until 1977, this state of emergency lasted for 21 months. On the 48th anniversary of the declaration of Emergency on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled those dark days. He tweeted, “Unforgettable period in history were the Emergency days. This decision was completely contrary to the constitutional values.” Notably, last Sunday in the 'Mann Ki Baat' radio program, he attacked the opposition Congress on democracy by referring to the emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi government. Apart from Prime Minister Modi, several Union Ministers and BJP leaders paid tributes by remembering those who resisted during the Emergency.
