New Delhi: The Union Cabinet approved Friday the one-year extension of the free food and grain distribution program to 81.3 crore poor people. The Center will give free ration to about 81.3 crore citizens of the country under the Food Security Act for the next one year. However, the tenure of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana is no longer being extended. It is ending on December 31. During the Corona lockdown in 2020, the Center adopted the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.
In fact, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, launched in 2020 after the start of the Covid pandemic, was not extended to meet the demands of opposition parties. The duration of this project is till December 31. However, the project was marged with the Food Safety Act. From now on, 5 kg of food grains per capita per month and 35 kg of food grains per family under the Anthayadaya Yojana will be given free. The central government will spend two lakh crore rupees for this.
Two Union Ministers Anurag Tagore and Piyush Goyal inform the media after the cabinet meeting. Until now, the ration recipients had to pay three and two rupees per kg respectively for rice and pulses.
Today, some updates have been made in the cabinet in the one post one pension system. So far around 21 lakh retired military personnel till June 30, 2015 were included in this practice. This period has been extended to 1 July 2019. Due to which nearly four lakh retired military personnel and their families will benefit. Center will give additional 8450 crore rupees for this. Due pension from July 2019 to June 2020 will also be given to them. 23,638 crores rupees have been allocated for this. However, voluntarily retired military personnel will not get pension.
