Bharat Gaurav train fares may drop by 20-30%

New Delhi: IRCTC recently had to cancel at least two special package tours due to non-fulfilment of seats. In this situation, IRCTC may reduce the fare of 'Bharat Gaurav' train by at least 20 to 30 percent, according to sources. However, no final decision has been taken in this regard yet.

Indian Railways has approved IRCTC's proposal to reduce the fares of special trains within a year of the launch of the service. So far only one special train service has been operated on the Ramayana circuit. AC-3 tire fare for 18 days tour on Bharat Gaurav tourist train is Rs.62 thousand. While the train was launched to consolidate efforts to promote domestic tourism through the provision of high-quality coaches and effective tour packages, the high rate of fares marked it as a 'luxury journey' for a certain segment.

IRCTC has written several letters to the Railway Board about the problem, officials said. It also highlighted the loss of operator's income due to fewer passengers. They said the ticket prices are exorbitantly high. It is believed that the Railway Board has finally agreed to reduce the fare. In a circular issued last week, it approved the use of only OLHB coaches for the service, which means pilgrims will have sleepers and AC-3 coaches with comfortable berths, good lighting, mobile charging points and other facilities.
