Pride of every Indian, Bharat Rtna Lata Mangeshkar breathed her last in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital today. After struggling with a Covid 19, as well as pneumonia for last 27 days and recovering from both, the veteran singer, who was often dubbed as the ‘nightingale of India’ succumbed to post Covid 19 complications, which led to multi organ failure. Two-day national mourning will be observed in memory of the legendary Lata Didi. The national flag will fly at half-mast for two days, as a mark of respect, and Lata Mangeshkar will be given a State funeral.
The doctors' fight did not work, the prayers of millions of fans failed. At the age of 92, 'Kokilkanthi of India' moved to the land of no return. The news of Lata Mangeshkar's death has been confirmed by N Santhanam, Chief Executive Officer of Breach Candy Hospital. Lata Mangeshkar passed away at 8.12 in the morning. Dr. Pratit Samadhani said, "Lata Mangeshkar died due to multi-organ failure. She was hospitalized for 27 days with Covid." For the time being, the hospital authorities are arranging to take his body to Shivaji Park, where Lata Mangeshkar will be laid to rest.
The veteran singer, who has been undergoing treatment at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital since the beginning of January, has been battling for 27 days. Although Covid-free, his physical condition deteriorated on Saturday, he was given ventilation again, but the last defense did not happen! On Saturday, sister Asha Bhonsle rushed to the hospital to see Mangeshkar and her granddaughter Shraddha Kapoor also arrived.
Lata was born in 1929 in Indore. Before becoming the undisputed empress of the music world, this proverbial artist started working in the industry as a child actor. He recorded his first song in 1942, courtesy of a Marathi film. Then she did not have to look back. Generation after generation has been immersed in the magic of Lata's melodious voice.
He has recorded over thirty thousand songs in his long career of seven decades. In 2001, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor. Earlier, Lata Mangeshkar was also given civil honors like 'Padma Bhushan' and 'Padma Vibhushan'. He has also been honored by Dada Saheb Phalke, the highest award in the film world.
