SRFTI has reaffirmed its commitment to student safety after the September 27 incident, saying necessary measures are being taken to strengthen campus security.
Kolkata: The Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, dignity and overall well-being of its students following the incident of September 27, 2026, stating that the situation at the institute is currently normal.
SRFTI, one of the country’s leading national institutions for film and television education, attracts students from different parts of India as well as from abroad. The institute said it has consistently maintained high standards of excellence in film education and remains committed to further strengthening its position as an international centre for film and television studies.
SRFTI Vice-Chancellor Santosh Ajmera said students remain at the centre of the institution and that their safety, dignity, overall well-being and academic life are its highest priorities. Describing the September 27 incident as deeply unfortunate, he said there could be no justification for violence within an educational institution. He assured students and their families that the institute remains firmly committed to ensuring their safety and overall welfare.
The institute said it is extending full cooperation to the concerned authorities and following due process in connection with the incident. Necessary measures are also being taken to further strengthen campus safety and security and to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
The Vice-Chancellor appealed to all concerned to exercise restraint and refrain from relying on unverified information, videos and speculation. He said the circulation of such material could create unnecessary anxiety and adversely affect students.
According to the institute, regular communication and interaction with students are being maintained. The immediate focus, it said, is on moving forward and ensuring that students can return to classroom teaching, academic activities and creative work in a safe, peaceful and supportive environment.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed gratitude for the support extended by the SRFTI Society, the concerned state and central government authorities, as well as students, faculty members, staff and the wider SRFTI community.
SRFTI reiterated its commitment to creating a safe and inspiring environment where every student can pursue education with confidence and dignity, participate in creative activities and develop their full potential.
