Adperma will begin commercial production of phenol and acetone at its ₹6,000-crore Haldia facility by December 2026, boosting domestic supply and reducing imports.
Kolkata : Adperma Private Limited, a subsidiary of Haldia Petrochemicals Limited (HPL) and one of India’s largest integrated manufacturers of phenol and acetone, is set to commence commercial production at its Haldia facility by the end of December 2026. Inaugurated on October 14, 2026, the facility is the country’s only integrated phenol and acetone production complex on the East Coast.
Licensed by Lummus Technology, the plant is integrated with HPL’s existing petrochemical complex and uses propylene and benzene as feedstocks. It has been designed to produce 345,000 tonnes of phenol and 215,000 tonnes of acetone annually, significantly expanding India’s domestic production capacity for these important industrial chemicals.
Phenol and acetone are key chemical intermediates used in a wide range of industries, including laminates, plywood, adhesives, resins, paints, pharmaceuticals and specialty chemicals. The commissioning of the Haldia facility is expected to strengthen domestic supply, support downstream manufacturing industries and reduce India’s dependence on imports.
Developed at a total project cost of ₹6,000 crore, the facility was inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in the presence of Dr. Purnendu Chatterjee, Chairman of HPL; Navanit Narayan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of HPL; and Sanjiv Vasudeva, Chief Executive Officer of Adperma.
The project marks a significant addition to India’s chemical manufacturing infrastructure and reflects HPL and Adperma’s commitment to strengthening the country’s chemicals value chain. By increasing the availability of essential chemical intermediates within India, the facility is expected to create opportunities for downstream industrial growth and contribute to the development of the domestic chemicals sector.
