Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani announces plans to invest over Rs 1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035 across ports, power, roads, logistics, healthcare, technology and other sectors.
Kolkata : Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani has announced plans to invest more than Rs 1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035, with the proposed investments spanning ports, logistics, power generation, power transmission and distribution, roads, bridges, green cement and hyperscale data centres, among other sectors.
Adani made the announcement on Thursday while addressing the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the 2,000-bed Adani Arogya Mandir at Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub in New Town, Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari was present at the event. According to Adani, the healthcare project will involve an investment of more than Rs 4,000 crore, covering a hospital, medical college and research infrastructure. The project is being developed on around 51.75 acres and is expected to generate nearly 10,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, the Adani Group said.
The proposed Adani Arogya Mandir will be a not-for-profit, multi-speciality healthcare institution. Of its 2,000 beds, 1,000 will be reserved for economically disadvantaged patients. Eligible beneficiaries covered under state and central government health insurance schemes will be able to access the facility. Alongside the hospital, the project will include a medical college, nursing college and infrastructure for allied healthcare services and paramedical education.
The first phase of the project will place particular emphasis on advanced tertiary healthcare, including cancer treatment. Plans also include establishing research facilities in areas such as genomics, precision medicine, biomedical informatics, artificial intelligence and clinical trials. The Adani Foundation has also announced plans to collaborate with international healthcare and medical institutions as part of the initiative.
Earlier on Thursday, Gautam Adani visited the Kalighat Temple in Kolkata and offered prayers before travelling to New Town for the foundation stone-laying ceremony. Discussions during the day also covered a range of industrial and infrastructure projects in West Bengal. The Adani Group said it would extend support not only to industrial and healthcare initiatives but also to the restoration of the historic Writers' Building and the rejuvenation of Kumartuli Ghat.
The group also announced an initiative to showcase Kolkata's Durga Puja, along with its art, culture and the people associated with the festival, on an international platform. The move is intended to highlight the cultural significance of the festival beyond West Bengal.
Adani said the group aims to develop West Bengal as one of its key operational hubs in eastern India. Under the investment plan announced by him, more than Rs 1 lakh crore is expected to be invested in the state by 2035 across infrastructure, energy, logistics, healthcare and technology, with multiple new projects planned across these sectors.
