Kolkata : The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will organise a one-day workshop on “Strengthening Governance in Public Financial Management: A Legislative Perspective” for the Members of the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal on August 18, 2026, at the ICAI Centre of Excellence in Kolkata.
The workshop, aimed at strengthening public financial governance and supporting informed legislative decision-making, is expected to be attended by more than 200 newly elected MLAs. The programme will focus on prudent fiscal management, financial discipline and the role of legislative oversight in ensuring effective utilisation of public funds.
The inaugural session will be attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari as the Chief Guest, while Legislative Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose will be present as the Guest of Honour. Their participation is expected to underline the importance of financial understanding and legislative scrutiny in improving governance and public service delivery.
Speaking on the occasion, ICAI President CA Prasanna Kumar D said the institute was committed to contributing to nation-building and supporting the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. He stressed the need to strengthen financial reporting and public financial management at every level of government, including local bodies.
“Strengthening financial reporting and public financial management across all tiers of government is a strategic necessity,” Kumar said, adding that such workshops can help ensure efficient expenditure and optimal utilisation of public funds for citizens.
The workshop will cover key areas of public financial management, including budget analysis and government accounting. The sessions are intended to help legislators develop a better understanding of financial processes and strengthen the financial management ecosystem in West Bengal.
