The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPR) has given the green signal for this annual change in the prices of medicines according to the Wholesale Price Index.
New Delhi: The prices of several essential medicines are going to increase again across the country from April 1. These include medicines for blood pressure, diabetes, gas, fever, vomiting, blood thinning, asthma, schizophrenia and other mental illnesses, and several medicines for diseases like AIDS. The prices of these medicines are going to increase by 1.74 percent. The government controls the prices of all these medicines.
The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPR) has given the green signal for this annual change in the prices of medicines according to the Wholesale Price Index. The new upper limit for this price increase in the prices of medicines is going to be fixed in accordance with the Central Drug Price Control Order (DPCO) of 2013. This price increase will be applicable on a total of 748 essential medicines and their various packaging and formulations.
Along with this, the prices of various cardiac and orthopedic implants including stents are also increasing. After April 1, the green signal has also been given to pharmaceutical companies to market new increased MRP medicines and withdraw old MRP medicines from the market.
The medicines included in this list include painkillers for cancer patients like snakebite, morphine. There are also numerous essential steroids and essential antibiotics. This list of essential medicines includes several daily used medicines like paracetamol. In addition, antibiotics like azithromycin used to prevent bacterial infections, anti-anemia medications, vitamins, minerals and certain steroids.
