West Bengal Secures Major Semiconductor Plant: A Step Towards Technological Revolution

Kolkata: In a significant move towards technological advancement, West Bengal is set to house a new semiconductor plant, marking a major milestone in the state's journey to becoming a hub for cutting-edge technology. The announcement follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to the United States, where bilateral talks with President Joe Biden paved the way for this landmark development.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has lauded the relentless efforts that led to securing the project, referring to it as a pivotal moment in Bengal’s industrial future. In a message posted on social media platform X, Banerjee emphasized, "Kolkata is ready to lead the semiconductor revolution in India!" She expressed pride in the state's efforts to harness emerging technology and attract investment, positioning Bengal as a key player in the semiconductor sector.

Banerjee’s post highlighted that the state's continuous push for technological progress and its potential have now drawn significant interest from American investors. She remarked that the semiconductor plant could play a crucial role in advancing national security, with the facility serving as a multi-material fabrication center.

“Fulfilling our aspirations for a global Bengal, the semiconductor facility could emerge as a national asset. We are grateful to the US government and the corporate world for their initiative. Bangla will make its mark on the world map once again!" she added.

A meeting was recently held between Chief Minister Banerjee and the US Consul General at the West Bengal state secretariat, Nabanna. Present at the meeting were Chief Secretary Manoj Pant and Principal Adviser to the Chief Minister, Alapan Banerjee. The Chief Minister stressed that the establishment of the semiconductor plant in Bengal is the result of persistent negotiations and collaboration with international partners.

This move is expected to usher in new opportunities for technological innovation, employment, and industrial growth in West Bengal, further boosting India's ambitions to become a key player in the global semiconductor industry.
