RBI announced withdraw of Rs 2000 notes on May 19, 2023.
New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the decision to withdraw Rs 2000 notes from the market on mid of 2023. But a huge amount of Rs 2000 notes are still circulating in the market after the deadline for depositing or exchanging Rs 2,000 notes has passed in various bank branches.
RBI has informed on Monday that 97.87 percent of the 2000 rupee notes have been returned. But the remaining part i.e. 7581 crores still remains in the hands of the people. RBI announced withdraw of Rs 2000 notes on May 19, 2023. At the end of the day on May 19, 2023, the total value of 2000 rupee notes was 3.56 lakh crore rupees.
According to the news published by an all India media, on June 24, 2024, the value of 2000 rupee notes in the hands of people has fallen to 7581 crore rupees. That is, 97.87 percent of the 2000 rupee notes have returned to the banks. Until October 7, 2023, all bank branches in the country had the facility of depositing or exchanging Rs 2,000 notes. From May 19, 2023, the Reserve Bank had the facility to exchange notes of Rs 2,000.
