Kolkata: Bandhan Bank's Managing Director, Chandrasekhar Ghosh, is set to retire. The founder of Bandhan Bank will step down on 9 July 2024 as his current term comes to an end. Ghosh has served three consecutive terms as the first Managing Director and CEO of Bandhan Bank. Recently, he wrote a letter to the board members expressing his intention to retire.

In the letter, the outgoing MD stated his desire to work as an advisor to Bandhan Financial Holdings post-retirement. Notably, in 2001, Chandrashekhar Ghosh initiated efforts to empower rural women in Bengal through a micro-credit project, leading to the formation of Bandhan Voluntary Organizations. The small institution transitioned into Bandhan Bank in 2015. Presently, Bandhan Bank serves over three and a half crore customers across 35 states and Union Territories of the country. Deposits at Bandhan Bank grew by 25 percent in FY 2023-24, totaling over 1.35 lakh crore. The bank's disbursed loans increased by 18 percent, reaching 1.29 lakh crore, with a workforce of 75 thousand employees.

Chandrasekhar Ghosh, the bank's MD, mentioned that the decision to retire was not easy, but with a highly skilled team in place, Bandhan Bank is positioned for continued success. He stated, "This is the right time for me to retire. I have informed the board, and I remain available for any suggestions regarding the bank."
