New Delhi : A public interest lawsuit (PIL) seeking the "real age" and "real history" of the Taj Mahal was dismissed by the Supreme Court on Monday. Surjit Yadav, a resident of Haryana, submitted the petition to a bench consisting of Justices MR Shah and  Justices C T Ravikumar.

According to the media reports, the bench advised, "Do not drag courts into everything." After four centuries, can we ascertain the Taj Mahal's age or its historical context? It also said, we are not here to go back in time. History must continue.

According to news agencies, the apex court granted Yadav permission to withdraw his plea and present himself before the Archaeological Survey of India.

Yadav had argued in his plea that, according to his research, there was already a mansion on the spot where the Taj Mahal is built. He wrote in his plea, "It is extremely odd why all the court chroniclers of Shah Jahan have not mentioned the name of the architect of this magnificent mausoleum." As a result, this shows very clearly that Raja Man Singh's mansion was not torn down; rather, it was altered and renovated to give the Taj Mahal its current appearance. The court chroniclers' accounts of Shah Jahan contain no mention of architects as a result.
